Honggermiao Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in Honggermiao area of Abag Qi (Banner), Inner Mongolia.
It was named by Ding Yunjie and Tong Zhengxiang in 1960, and formally quoted by Hou Hongfei et al. in 1979.
Lithology and Thickness
Siltstone and volcanics. The formation is characterized by arkose and calcareous siltstone intercalated with limestone lenses, and grayish-green to pink shale; and it may locally be intercalated with andesitic porphyrite. However, regionally, it "consists mainly of tuff, ..." The base consists of conglomerate. The outcropped thickness is about 210 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base consists of conglomerate and lies unconformably on the underlying Wendurmaio Fm (or Group). [NOTE: reference strat chart for this column #4 region does not show this formation; but implied that the Late Devonian was entirely the Cailunguoshao Fm sandstone (which is probably more local?).]
Upper contact
The upper part is cut by faults.
Regional extent
Similar deposits can also be observed at Aomgenhuduge in Sonid Zuoqi (Left Banner); it extends latitudinally 100 km, consists mainly of tuff, metamorphosed sandstone and conglomerate intercalated with limestone lenses, and yields fauna and plant fossils.
GeoJSON
Fossils
It yields coral: Nalivkinella profunda, Nickolsoniella sp.; brachiopods: Cyrtospirifer spp., Centrorhynchia turanica; and plant fossils Leptophloeum rhombicum.
